You will immerse in the Russian culture through the academic lenses as well as the practical part. We carefully choose our partners to provide academic courses in order to actively improve your language skills, while the hands-on work experience allows you to test your knowledge in real life.

The Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture was founded in 1918, it was among the first institutions in Russia conducting cultural and art related research and education. The university operates based on the following key principles:

  • innovative teaching with various creative and interactive techniques;
  • research focused approach;
  • deeply committed to the success of its students;
  • provide an atmosphere that inspires the local creative arts community;
  • give back to the public.

The organization is devoted to present the highest qualified professors and professionals for its students. Educators understand the language barriers, thus the syllabus is built in a way to focus on firstly giving the essential speaking skills necessary for the daily life of the student – and then move on to the more complex, professional vocabulary.

Students are provided with the opportunity to immerse in the Russian culture, the course materials contain the major sections of the Russian history, culture, literature, arts, customs and traditions of the past century and modern days equally. The cultural education does not stop in the classrooms, the university offers sightseeing tours, museum and theater visits to cater an all-inclusive real life experience.

Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture put in a great effort in the improvement of its educational materials and techniques, in order to help students to successfully adapt in a new working environment or get in touch with people on the professional or personal level in Russia.

The Saint-Petersburg State University of Film and Television was founded in 1918 as the Higher Institute of Photography and Photographic Engineering, accredited as a university since 1998.

Being the oldest institution in the Russian photography, cinematography and television industries, it provides world class education. The theoretical and practical syllabuses of cinematography and mass media are focused on training qualified personnel, who are ready to meet the demands of the worldwide market.

The university offers a modern and comprehensive educational package including the creative and technical side as well as the economical and management knowledge needed. A variety of faculties are at hand to satisfy the needs of students and employers:

  • Faculty of Screen Arts,
  • Faculty of Film and Television Technologies,
  • Faculty of Media Communications and Tourism,
  • Faculty of Producing,
  • Economics and Managemen
  • Faculty of Photography and Design Technologies

Young professionals can get a foot in the door by learning about the industry and meeting professionals, who will encourage them on the whole way down to success in the show business.

General schedule of Specialized Programs

In the first part of the day students will be taking academic lessons, while in the second part of the day they participate in field work. Thus the total length of an average day’s schedule equals to a normal working day. The academic lessons consist of both group and individual classes. The average group size is between 10-15 and there are maximum 4 academic hours per day, the rest of the program consists of the internship and/or the practical part.

  • Program Language: All programs are taught in Russian.
  • Levels: Any level of Russian (B2 is recommended for optimal performance)
  • Requirements: In order to determine the most suitable group for each student, every candidate will write a Russian test before registering for the program.
  • Result of the programs: It is guarenteed, that all students finishing the program will improve their Russian skills with minimum one level.
  • Certificates:
    1. Upon completion of the internship the Certificate and the Letter of recommendation are issued by the placing company.
    2. Additionally, depending on the enrolment:
      1. Certificate of secondary education issued by the State University of Culture
      2. Certificate of professional development issued by the State University of Film and Television
  • Place of studies: Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Students may book an accommodation in a university dormitory (must be booked 4 months in advance and possible only if they have free rooms) or find a single room in a shared apartment, rent a studio or flat (with the help of ProfIntern or individually).

Advertising and Public relations

University: There are two options available, depending on the request:

  • The University of Culture (museums, handcrafts, music, literature, pop art)
  • University of Cinema and Television (tourism program, film and television)

Classroom work (Academic education in mini-groups or individually)

  1. Applied features of marketing and PR-technologies in the Russian cultural environment
  2. Working with businesses, official authorities and the mass media
  3. Fundraising and Volunteering technologies
  4. Basics of Media Communication
  5. Gaining work experience with the administrative departments, community organizations, businesses and educational institutions.

Practical part

  1. Internship in the tourist information center of the Russian Museum (introduction to the operating principles, press event organization, event marketing on-line and offline) related to tourism. Training in the Uppsala-Circus (creation and participation in socially important projects). Internship in the Russian News Agency TASS (press event organization for companies and organization from different industries) – program length 2 weeks.
  2. Visiting museums with groups and individually (introduction to the culture and history of Russia and exploration of cities with true Russian mentality): Peter and Paul Fortress, The Academy of Fine Arts, the Presidential library and the marketing analysis of the environment
  3. Visiting press conferences and cultural events.
  4. Work with social networks and websites.
  5. Participation in a mass communication project.

Frequency of classroom work: 4 hours / week for 12 weeks.

Classroom work (Academic education in mini-groups or individually)

  1. Household communication: grammar and speech (elementary level)

  7. Country related studies (Russia, history, culture, mentality)
  8. Publicistic style (arts, foundations of journalism)

The topics are discussed in the form of dialouges, monologues and through articles.

Practical part

  1. Internship in the tourist information center of the Russian Museum (introduction to the operating principles, press event organization, event marketing on-line and offline) related to tourism. Training in the Uppsala-Cricus (creation and participation in socially important projects). Internship in the Russian News Agency TASS (press event organization for companies and organization from different industries) – program length 2 weeks. Internship in the online library, organization of cultural and leisure activities. Internship at the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts (mastering drawing techniques, sculpting and others) – program length 2 weeks
  2. Visiting museums with groups and individually (introduction to the culture and history of Russia and exploration of cities with true Russian mentality): Peter and Paul Fortress, The Academy of Fine Arts, the Presidential library and the marketing analysis of the environment
  3. Studying new methods and technologies to engage younger generations (Peter and Paul Fortress, quest - an Island on the move, an interactive walk - Petrovskaya Aquatoria, walk and talk around the Museum quarter, game in Suvorov’s Museum)
  4. Specialized excursions with an expert on Chinese utvara, a furniture speicalist in the Ermitazh or the Menshikov Palace
  5. Other: visiting museums, galleries, libraries
  6. Visiting press conferences and cultural events

Frequency of classrom work: 8 hours / week. The first point of the practical part is obligatory, further programs are optional, depending on the length of stay.

Tourism & Hospitality

  1. Design the organization planning strategies and programs for different types of touristic products in Russia, that meet the consumer requirements
  2. Peculiarities of the legal and economic issues in Russia
  3. The theoretical foundations of business communication psychology, communication technology and business communication technologies in tourism
  4. Intercultural communication in Russia (and its special features)
  5. Internet technologies and tourism
  6. The legal, normative technical and organizational foundations of the safe touristic operations; methods for organizing and ensuring the safety of tourists and touristic activities
  7. The hotel classification system in Russia
  8. Types and classes of public catering enterprises in Russia
  9. New and popular technologies in the Russian touristic activity and hospitality
  10. Flow of documentation, administrative tasks

Practical part (you can book all the activities or choose the most relevant for you)

Hospitality:

1. The study of the hospitality enterprises in Russia for 2 weeks, visiting different types of catering companies and hotels of different size.

2. Internship in the hotel Cronwell Inn Stremyannaya: assistance in the department of advertisement and sales, participations in the organization of programs related to PR

and/or

Internship in the hotel Ambassador / Kempinski Hotel, Radisson Blue / Europe (PR, F&B department)

Tourism:

1. The study of tourism enterprises in Russia (visit and practice, 1 week)

2. Internship in a tourism company or cultural organization. Roles cover assistance and support for the sales department.

3. Creation of new tourism products at the tourism agency or museum, using the latest technologies and engineering/design techniques.

4. Participation in business and cultural activities, conducted for and with the help of the tourism business and hospitality enterprises (hotel, restaurant)

Valued skills

  • Ability to create new touristic products and services using modern technologies and design techniques. Visit 1-3 programs of Agency of Museum Communications.
  • Participation, development and implementation of a specific project based on the course profile (during the training period, 12 weeks, at the place of the internship)

Frequency of classroom work: 8 hours per week for 6 weeks (program length is 90 days)
