Hello everyone! I am Nicolas and I come from Belgium. I decided to come to Saint Petersburg to complete an internship. I’m learning Russian since a while and I wanted to live deeper into a Russian environment. I told to Profintern I would like to work in a place where I can practice Russian language.

They have found for me a perfect work. I spent three months in a Non-Governmental Organization specialized on environmental issues. The most important part of my job was to make some presentations in English about ecology. I went to different schools in SPB to present them. I really enjoyed this job because it included different types of work. On one hand, I needed to sit in front of my computer to research some information and to create power points. Of course in the office I could speak Russian with my lovely colleagues. On the other hand, I had the opportunity to be a bit more active. I didn’t stay all three months sit on a chair in an office. I often went out to teach in different schools spread around the city and its suburbs. I really liked these two “faces” of my intern.

Profintern is also responsible to find accommodations. On this point, I should say they did a nice job as well. I lived in the city center, and I had to walk 20 minutes to reach my office. In a big city as Saint Petersburg it’s really a freedom close to a luxury not to sit every day in the crowded underground.

Finally I would like to write few words about Russia. This is a really interesting country full of paradoxes. Here are some examples. You can meet super rich people as well as very poor ones. You will probably think on a first sight that Russians are rude, but after a while you will meet people and you will discover how friendly they are. They are still a lot of paradoxes, but I let you the pleasure to discover them and to enjoy as I do this fascinating culture. The last sentence is for Saint Petersburg. I have travelled in many different cities around Russia. Saint Petersburg is far the most beautiful. It deserves 100 percent its tittle of cultural capital of Russia. I advised anyone who is interested by Russia in particular or by Culture in general to come here in order to see this beauty with one's own eyes.
